Emerald cut diamonds are among the most classic of diamond shapes. An emerald cut looks especially stunning set in a simple platinum setting or a baguette side-stone setting. This diamond can make the simplest of settings look sophisticated and elegant.
The Emerald cut has clean long lines which are accomplished via the step-cutting, or parallel line facets. This cut always has blocked corners and is generally cut to a rectangular shape, although it is possible to find some cut to be more square.
As a result of the diamond’s simple faceting structure the large inclusions are generally easier to detect by the naked eye so this cut of diamond usually need to be of a higher clarity, and it would be best to avoid I1 or I2 clarities.
When choosing emerald cut diamonds usually a 1.50:1.00 ratio is advised. This means that the length of the stone will be approximately 1½ times the width of the diamond. However, like all fancy shapes, everyone has their own preferences. Some prefer longer thinner rectangles whilst others prefer a squarer shape.
