Named after the Greek word for ‘unbreakable’, even so as much as a mention of the word diamond conjures up an array of images, from the ultimate gift for a loved one, to a symbol of supreme indulgence through diamond-encrusted delicacies. For as long as we’ve been able to keep records, diamonds have been the focus of a variety of desires and social aspirations. From ancient Royalty through to modern day celebrities, these gems owe their desirability to their lustre like appearance. But how many of us have ever stopped to ask the question: ‘how are diamonds formed?’
